Following his illustrious sister Georgia, Chester goalkeeper Wyll Stanway has earned his first international call-up.
It’s a more humble start for the 22-year-old, chosen for the England C squad to take on Wales C at Llanelli Town on Tuesday, March 19.
Stanway has recently completed 50 appearances for Chester and has been in outstanding form this season, registering 16 clean sheets in 36 games, conceding only 27 goals.
Barrow-born Stanway had started with Holker Old Boys and was also on duakl registration with Lancaster City before joining Chester in 2022.
Before establishing himself in the first team he had loan spells at FC United of Manchester, Bootle and Macclesfield. At one point the Silkmen were keen to sign him but couldn’t agree a fee with Chester.
Stanway will be vying for a start against the Welsh with the Bromley goalkeeper Grant Smith.
Before his football career took off Stanway was better known in cricket where he played for Furness and Cumberland. He also had a summer in Australia playing Grade cricket as a teenager.
There’s another name in the England C squad which will be familiar to Barrow fans – Myles Kenlock of Ebbsfleet who has been an ever-present in the side since joining them in October and has not missed a single minute of league action during those subsequent 19 matches.
Kenlock spent eight years at Ipswich and made 85 appearances before spells with Barrow and Aldershot last season, playing eight games for the Bluebirds.
