The finishing touches are being completed at Maryport’s new Boardwalk this week.
Large seating blocks are being bracketed into place and the woodwork which surrounds the structure given an additional coat of protective oil today and tomorrow.
Next month, the raised planting beds will be filled with wildflower seeds.
The Boardwalk will close today and tomorrow to allow the contractors, Ulverston-based Cowran Estates Services Ltd, to carry out the work quickly.
A diversion for pedestrians will be in place along Strand Street.
The Boardwalk was officially opened last month and is part of the transformation of Maryport’s public realm using money from the Government’s Future High Streets Fund.
Cumberland Council came up with the plan to create the Boardwalk as part of £12 million of regeneration work taking place across the town. Its aim is to give easy access for all to the historic harbourside – soon to be home to a new outdoor event space – and to the Promenade, which is getting a new café and beach shop.
Work is due to be completed on those projects this summer.
