The Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL kicks off in earnest this week – starting with one game tonight.
Two preliminary round ties in the E Lamb and Son Amateur Cup launched the new campaign last week ahead of the League’s official start.
The one fixture tonight sees the possible title favourites Wath Brow A hosting Ellenborough Rangers A.
After Distington’s elevation to the National Conference League the Hornets’ second string will be one of the sides expected to show the way this time round.
The new season has seen some old favourites returning to the fold – and interesting newcomers Askam from the south of the county.
They kick-off with a home game tomorrow against Hensingham A, hoping to be more competitive this season with the arrival of the club’s new enthusiastic head coach Kris Coward.
The other League newcomers are Distington A, just formed to take the place of their departing senior side.
Head coach Aiden Worthington is putting a lot of faith in the young players at the club and is hopeful that several will test their metal in the Conference as the season progresses.
It’s an interesting start to the campaign with a derby clash at Lowca, another club who have a coach in Lee Allen who is keen to establish younger players in his squad.
Flimby and Aspatria are old friends returning to the League this season and both have testing home games to start with.
The two met last week in the Amateur Cup and Aspatria came out on top 32-26 at Flimby – so that outing will have done both the power of good.
Flimby entertain Glasson Rangers while Aspatria host one of the title favourites in Kells A.
