A new ramped access has been developed for a popular riverside footpath in Carlisle.
Cumberland Council, with the Hadrian’s Wall Trail Partnership, has recently completed surfacing a path across the Swifts area, to access walks along the River Eden.
The final phase of the improvements received vital support from the partnership, made up of the managing authorities responsible for the Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail and overseen by the Northumberland National Park Authority.
By removing the obstructive steps behind the Sands Centre and creating a new access point suitable for pushchairs and individuals with mobility issues, the walk now links the Swifts, Eden Bridge, Rickerby Park and Memorial Bridge.
