A Cumbrian firm’s response to an online food review has raised a smile on the internet – because it is not actually a pub.
Sessile Oak, based in Sebergham, was surprised to read on review platform Trustpilot that its carvery disappointed reviewer Steve Barker, who found the beef tough and the vegetables disappointingly presented.
The construction firm had been confused with a new pub with the same name in Llanelli, Wales.
It shared the bad review on its social media – and the review has since been taken down from its Trustpilot page.
Cumbria’s Sessile Oak left an amusing response to Steve’s complaint:
“Hi Steve,
Thanks for dropping by with your review. Okay, I’ll put my hands up and admit I am a really lousy cook and the best I can do on a good day is a half decent eggs Benedict, but then we are a construction company – we don’t serve food.
I think I can see the problem here. It appears you’ve mistaken us for someone else who serves food. That’s not us – we don’t serve food.
I suspect the Sessile Oak you’re looking for is the much more recently established pub and carvery in South Wales. Being a much longer established construction company in Cumbria who specialises in the bespoke crafting of traditional green oak buildings, we don’t tend to serve food beyond the occasional biscuit and cup of tea for our visiting clients.
Now, I quite understand the disappointment one must feel when visiting a chain-owned pub…Clearly Michel Roux was out of the kitchen that day, which all of us here in the workshop where we craft solid oak buildings but don’t serve food, can appreciate.
So…I wonder if perhaps I might impose upon you to transfer your review to the correct business – one that serves food.
Thank you.
PS Did I mention we don’t serve food?”
