Kendal Town have missed six penalties in a row, which has contributed to them slipping out of the play-off places.
The latest came in Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat by Lower Breck and manager Jimmy Marshall is at a loss to explain the damaging statistic.
“The lads take them in training and bang them in, but to miss six in a row when it matters in a match has proved very costly.
“We have frittered away points and the missed penalties have contributed to that, but I was disappointed at the performance as well against Lower Breck.
“I just thought the hunger just wasn’t there and it is now a really tough uphill fight to make the play-offs.
“We have five games left and all we can do is try and win them all to see where that takes us.
“To win six in a row and then lose the next three has been really frustrating. Although our [performances haven’t been great nobody has played us off the park and we have had opportunities in all of them to change the result,” said Marshall.
The Mintcakes are at home to Glossop North End on Saturday and a 1-0 win in the Peak District was part of their recent six match winning run. They need a repeat to re-ignite their promotion hopes.
