A man who tried to get into a house through a cat flap has been jailed.
Simon Highmore, 34, of Melbourne Road, Carlisle, has been sentenced to 20 months imprisonment for attempted burglary.
Carlisle Crown Court heard that between May 5 and 6 Highmore entered the backyard of a property on Warwick Road by a rear gate.
Highmore then attempted to get into the property via a cat flap, unsuccessfully, causing damage.
Blood was also left at the scene on the cat flap and vehicles parked to the read of the property.
These were swabbed by crime scene investigation and matched to Highmore.
Detective Constable Louise Telford, who led the investigation, said: “Highmore unsuccessfully attempted to enter the property but left a trail behind leading to his identification.
“We take burglary offences extremely seriously and those who conduct similar offences can expect to face a police investigation and prosecution.
