
A West Cumbrian care home put into special measures by the health watchdog is shutting down, it is being reported.
The Care Quality Commission found serious safety concerns when inspectors visited in August last year, and rated the home inadequate.
At the time of the inspection, 22 people lived at the Lamplugh Road home.
The report added: “On occasions, people were crying as they had not received assistance they needed.”
The report also found:
- People were at significant risk of harm as safety was not prioritised
- People were not safeguarded against the risk of abuse
- Health and safety risks were not always identified or managed
- There were not sufficient members of staff
- Staff did not always have the correct knowledge or skills to provide care
- People were not involved in planning their end of life care – including one person who receiving end of life care
- The premises were not suitable for people’s needs
- There was a lack of a relationship with local GPs
- There was poor infection prevention
- People were not treated with dignity or respect
- Care was delivered to help staff speed and efficiency, rather than the person’s needs
Churchlake Holdings Limited, the parent company of Lakeland Care which had previously run the home, entered administration in 2022.
Holmewood was being overseen by administrators Kroll Advisory and Cornerstone Care Solutions.
It told the BBC it was unable to find a buyer for the home and had made the decision to close it.
