
Two more people have been arrested – bringing the total to five – after reports that a group of men had been seen with a single firearm in Whitehaven.
Police were called to the area of Meadow Road, yesterday, March 29, at around 2.50pm.
Three men were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm yesterday afternoon.
A further two men were arrested late last night – one on suspicion of possession of a firearm and another on suspicion of assisting an offender.
They remain in custody today.
Investigations continue and officers are appealing for anyone with information – or who saw anything suspicious – to contact them.
A number of properties have been searched by officers during the enquiry.
Armed police attended as a precaution.
Police said residents may see an increased officer presence in the area as investigations continue.
