Parkside land Kenny Hailes Memorial Trophy

Parkside landed the Kenny Hailes Memorial Trophy with a convincing 5-0 win against Thornhill.

This competition, part of the West Cumberland Sunday League, is for clubs who originally were members of the Egremont Sunday League – or from that part of the area.

The equivalent for ex-Workington League sides, the Albert Murphy Trophy, had been won in mid-week by Dearham who shocked the all-conquering Northside 3-0 at Borough Park.

Parkside were generally in charge throughout at the Falcon Complex, Egremont and always had too much for their opponents.

Callum Birdsall (3) and Ben McCarron (2) scored the goals for the West Cumberland Premier Division leaders.

From where they were at the start of the season, struggling to put out a team, the fact that they reached a Cup final and have continued to fulfil their League fixtures is credit to the Thornhill club.

There were only two other games yesterday, the tightest being Sun Inn’s 3-2 win at Swan.

Richard O’Keefe (pen), Josh Graham and Luke Bennett scored for Sun with Jack Pears grabbing both for Swan.

Bluebell were 5-1 winners against Butchers with Carl Denver (3), Macauley Sharp and Gary Brunton on target. Jack Burns netted Butcher’s consolation.
