Station Road’s Chris Hunter in action

Workington’s Station Road Club put a significant dent in fellow townies United Club A’s L & L Property Contractors Snooker League division 1 title hopes.

In the fixture between the two Division One sides Station Road scored a crushing 4-1 home victory.

Tom Thompson opened up with an excellent victory to put Station Road 1-0 up and with team-mate Darren Lawson on top form in frame two the underdogs were soon two to the good.

A Mark Robertson win in frame three gave Station Road an unassailable lead at 3-0.

Even though John Teasdale made a break of 30 in the next Peter O’Hagan had too much to offer as the United A cueist pulled one back for 3-1.

In the final frame of the match Chris Hunter found himself up against it, but with calm head the Station Road player closed out the match for a shock 4-1 victory.

Current Division One league champions Workington Golf Club A moved three points clear at the top of the division with a 4-1 victory over Workington Conservative Club.

A win for Julian Plaza put Cons 1-0 up before the Golf Club A’s Ryan Ismay won with a break of 37 in frame two to restore parity.

A Phil Sorfleet victory in frame three gave the Golf Club A a 2-1 advantage and with the current Division One title holders taking the last two an important 4-1 victory was recorded.

Division Two leaders Workington Veterans Club A increased their advantage in the second tier to nine points on the back of a 4-1 home win over club rivals Workington Veterans Club B.

A Luke Richardson victory in the first gave the Vets B side some hope but with Kevin Basnett in superb form in frame two the Vets A captain made it 1-1 with breaks of 72 and 35 in the process.

As Vets A took the third for 2-1 followed by another win in the fourth from Paul Smith the town side were assured of the match victory at 3-1.

In the last Mark Tatton set off with real intent and in keeping his foot on the gas the Vets A cueist maximised the winning margin to finish the match at 4-1.

Whitehaven’s Rack Shack went a long way to securing a Division Two top four play-off spot with a 5-0 whitewash of Workington Golf Club B.

An Andy Moore win gave the Rack Shack just the start they were looking for, and as team mate Nev Stitt took frame two on the black the Whitehaven outfit doubled their lead.

Peter McAvoy won a relatively convincing third for 3-0 and even though the next went down to the last couple of balls it was the Rack Shack who made it 4-0 with an Adam Morilla victory.

The fifth and final frame again served up a point however with the Rack Shack now in ultra confident mood as Chris Mckelvey tightened the screw to win for a maximum points haul in finishing 5-0.

Finally, Workington’s United Club B defeated Maryport Social 3-2 at home and now with just a few games remaining they are looking like certainties to finish second in the Division Two table.

A win on the last few balls for Wayne Sinclair gave United B a 1-0 lead and as team mate Stephen Harrison produced a similar victory in the second the Workington side moved 2-0 ahead.

In the third Andrew Scott was in determined state of mind and in eking out a win Maryport pulled one back for 2-1.

The next proved to be another close contest but with a desire to ensure the match victory went United B’s way Andrew Carter ground out the necessary win to make it 3-1.

The final frame of the fixture had the makings of a United B win however with Greg Todd hitting top form the Social cueist cooly dispatched his opponent to limit the damage and finish the match at 3-2.
