Kendal Town are back in the North West Counties Premier Division play-off places after a 3-2 win at Charnock Richard.
With three games to go Jimmy Marshall’s side still have a bit of work to do as four teams battle for the last two play-off places and the three others have games in hand of the Mintcakes.
But two Easter wins have revived hopes that Kendal can finish the season as they started – on an unbeaten run and earn the right to battle it out in the play-offs.
Kendal had been under pressure early on when the home side missed a couple of good chances but gradually they came more into the game and fashioned their own opportunities.
They took the lead on 30 minutes when Fin Lynch took advantage of a defensive error to go on and score with a calm finish.
Three minutes later they doubled the lead. Ryan Winder’s first effort was blocked but Matt Dudley was following-up to steer home the second.
Both sides were finding it a bit of a slog on a heavy pitch but eight minutes into the second-half Charnock Richard pulled one back when Charles Duke headed home at the far post.
Substitute Joe Dickson almost scored a third for Kendal soon after coming on but he hit a post. However on 70 minutes Steve Yawson did restore the two goal advantage when he went round the keeper before slotting home.
However on 77 minutes Charnock pulled one back when Luke Power let one go from distance and it dipped sharply over Chris Cheetham to find the net.
There was almost disaster for Kendal in the last minute but Leyton Holden cleared off the line and Kendal held on through four added minutes.
