Rail passengers are being told not to travel on Friday due to significant strike action by train drivers.
Avanti West Coast has issued the travel advice ahead of the latest industrial action by train drivers’ union ASLEF.
On Friday, April 5, members of ASLEF will go on strike and customers are being told not to attempt travel on this day because Avanti West Coast will be unable to run any services.
Customers are advised to claim a refund, seek alternative transport, or rearrange journeys for another date.
Many destinations on the West Coast Main Line will have no rail connectivity on Friday and there will not be any rail replacement services.
Customers with tickets for Friday, bought before March 20 can claim a full fee-free refund from their point of purchase.
Alternatively, tickets dated between April 5 and April 8 can be used from Thursday, April 4, up to and including Wednesday April 10.
Friday’s walkout follows the start of ASLEF members carrying out action short of a strike, which involves withdrawing from working overtime between Thursday, April 4, to Saturday, April 6, and from Monday April 8 to Tuesday April as part of industrial action at multiple train companies.
Customers travelling on these dates are advised to check before they travel, as journeys across train operators and routes may be affected.
Transpennine Express said it would not be running any services on Saturday, April 6 and other services would be affected during the week of strike action.
Kathryn O’Brien, customer experience and transformation director, said: “We expect the action to cause some disruption, delays and short-notice cancellations. I would advise customers to check very carefully before they travel and to allow extra time for any journeys.”
