
With the clocks going forward at the weekend, it was the return of the evening games in the Cumberland County League and all eyes were on Division One with three games involving teams fighting for the title.
Top of the table Cockermouth extended their lead with a 2-1 win against Windscale Reserves. Luke Graham and Sam Wright were on target for Cockermouth and it was Harry Hodgson who hit the back of the net for Windscale.
Second placed Keswick are still only two points behind Cockermouth after they were victorious against Bransty Rangers. Stephen Moss, with a double, and Bradley Fearns made sure that Keswick are still unbeaten in the league with a 3-1 win. Liam O’Pray grabbed the Bransty goal.
Meanwhile third place Whitehaven AFC Reserves were in action against local rivals Whitehaven Miners Social Development and they won this derby fixture 6-2.
Ben Powell hit a hat-trick with Joe Martin, Tom Martin and Dan Starkey scoring the other goals to ensure Whitehaven still have an outside chance in the title race. Miners’ goals came from Ben McCarron and Dan Routledge.
There was only one game in the Premier Division as Maryport Athletic beat Wigton Harriers 4-0 with goals from Callum Casson, Ellis Short, Cameron Moir and Attlee Skillen.
Athletic are now five points clear of Aspatria in second place with one game remaining and can clinch the title next Tuesday if Aspatria fail to win their game in hand.
In the Ken Glover Memorial Cup, Liam Graham, James Nixon and Charlie Thomson made sure Unisun Athletic edged past Aspatria with a 3-2 victory. Andrew Trestianu and Richard Hudson were Aspatria’s goal scorers.
