Workington Town made it back-to-back wins when they beat Rochdale Hornets 32-22 at the Fibrus Community Stadium.
After defeats to Oldham and Keighley, Town have sparked into life by beating Newcastle comfortably and then working hard to see it through against the Hornets.
They were nicely ahead 22-4 at the break and although Rochdale rallied late on, and scored more second-half points than their hosts, they couldn’t get close enough.
Town could not have asked for a better start as Jordan Burns, who was to emerge as their man of the match, crashed over for the opening try in the first minute and Ciaran Walker added the conversion.
On eight minutes they scored again when some neat handling was finished off by Jake Bradley but Walker was uncharacteristically wide with the kick from a near-perfect position.
After Steve Scholey was held-up on the line Town were in again on 13 minutes when a good pass from Jarrod Sammut put Johnny Hutton in for the try which Walker converted.
When Town went in again on 20 minutes they were scoring sat more than a point a minute and this time it was Brad Taylor who went over with a diving finish and Walker tacked on the extras.
Rochdale had been on the back foot for the first quarter of the game but on 23 minutes they got on the scoreboard with a well-worked try for Tommy Brierley.

It stayed that way until half-time with Rochdale at least quelling Town’s points surge and having a couple of opportunities themselves.
Five minutes into the second-half Rochdale had some hope of a come-back when Joe Hartley scored in the corner and Max Flanagan added the conversion.
However Workington responded immediately and on 49 minutes Matty Henson was over for a typical close-range try and Walker improved it for a 28-10 lead.

Town were put under some pressure but defended really well with the team all working hard and effectively for each other.
Rochdale needed the next score to have a chance but it was Town scored again on 70 minutes when a high kick was allowed to bounce by Max Nixon and Hutton collected to score the final home try which went unconverted.

Town’s performance was rather spoiled in the last few minutes when Rochdale got over twice through Jordan Andrade and Connor Ratcliffe with Flanagan converting both.
