A book inspired by Whitehaven’s beached whale will be launched this weekend.
The Whale, on Whitehaven shore, appeared overnight in May 2022 – initially people believed it was a real whale until it was revealed that it was a project from Eden Arts.
David Gaffney was the resident writer for the Whale.
The project, commissioned by Eden Arts and crafted by the Captain Boomer Collective and Zephyr Wildlife, was designed to stir discussions about our connection with the planet and its resources.
During his residency, David penned short stories, drawing inspiration from the whale and the interactions people had with it.
The stories have been compiled into his latest book, Whale, published by Osmosis Press.

At the launch, Adrian Lochhead, of Eden Arts, will delve into the event and other related events he has overseen.
Sarah-Clare Conlon will read from her recent work inspired by lighthouses and the sea, and David will share stories from his new book.
People will have the chance to ask questions and purchase books, which can be signed by the author.
The event is free at The Beacon Museum in Whitehaven, on Saturday, April 13, at 4pm.
