Barrow Raiders go in search of back-to-back wins in the Betfred Championship on Sunday when Dewsbury Rams are the visitors to south Cumbria.
After an initial heavy defeat at Widnes, the Raiders have had too ultra-tight contests – losing to a late drop goal at Whitehaven and then gaining their first win by the same means at home to York City Knights.
Their former player Jake Carter sealed the win for Whitehaven but Brad Walker put over the winning one-pointer against York to get the Raiders’ season rolling.
Coach Paul Crarey had targeted three successive home games to kick-start their season after those two early defeats and the visit of Dewsbury is the second in the trilogy. Doncaster are up next.
Crarey has named his 21-man squad and there are two changes with Shane Toal returning to the squad and Luke Broadbent also back in the mix following his recent suspension.
Mike Ogunwole drops out, while Jarrad Stack has returned home to Australia due to family reasons and will be unavailable this weekend.
Tom Forber and Kavan Rothwell are both named after having their respective short-term loan deals extended earlier this week.
Crarey said: “We are certainly not going to underestimate Dewsbury. They have already beaten Batley and they were in the games against Widnes and Halifax despite losing.
“It’s no good our boys winning against York and then not being able to follow-up against Dewsbury, who have a big pack of forwards who can all play.
“We are going to miss Jarrad who was quite outstanding in all his work last week. The fans were also brilliant against York and we are looking for them to be back again in good voice, with even more there, because it is certainly appreciated by the team.”
The squad is: Luke Broadbent, Andrew Bulman, Greg Burke, Brett Carter, Max Clarke, Matt Costello, Luke Cresswell, Charlie Emslie, Tom Forber, Ellis Gillam, Delaine Gittens-Bedward, James Greenwood, Ryan Johnston, Kevan Rothwell, Ryan Shaw, Razor Silva, Shane Toal, Brad Walker, Tom Walker, Tom Wilkinson, Josh Wood.
