Champions Cleator Moor Celtic continued their impressive start to the new West Cumbria Veterans League season with an 8-0 win against Aspatria.

They were following-up an opening win of 7-0 against Thornhill Bulls so are throwing down an early marker to the rest of the League.

Leigh Dunn led the way with four goals and he was joined on the score-sheet by Darren Johnston, Glynn Edwards, Robert Fowler and Glen Meagan.

Seaton were also among the goals as they beat St. Benedict’s 7-0 in their first game of the season but the other two scheduled games were much tighter.

We even had that rarity in local football – a 0-0 draw as neither Cockermouth nor Thornhill Bulls could find the net. But after their mauling by Celtic, the Bulls would take significant pleasure in their clean sheet.

Senhouse Street are the other side to have won both opening match so far as they followed-up a 7-1 win over Flimby Social with a harder-earned 2-1 victory over Borough.

In the North East Premier Division Carlisle City lead the way after a 5-0 victory at Unisun Athletic.

Champions Harraby Catholic, who were held 6-6 in a remarkable opening game, scored their first win at Silloth, coming out on top 3-1.Museum followed-up that hectic draw with a more sedate 2-0 win against Northbank.
