A charity which supports families in Cumbria has been given an £180,000 boost by the National Lottery.
Cumbria Family Support has secured the funding to help support 250 families across the county over the next three years from the lottery’s Community Fund.
The Empowering Families project will support families who are facing difficulties or hardship, and will ensure families have the resources, skills and help they need to have safe, nurturing relationships with their children.
Established in 1993, Cumbria Family Support works with families with children aged up to 18.
A team of volunteers and staff offer regular support, friendship, and practical help to families preventing crisis, breakdown, and separation.
Through home and community-based work the team help families to build their own networks, develop strengths, coping strategies and resilience.
Cumbria Family Support’s chief executive Lynsey Buckle said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this funding will make an enormous difference to hundreds of families across the county.
“Demand has never been higher, we are seeing more and more people with complex needs such as domestic violence, addiction and mental health issues turning to Cumbria Family Support for help.
“Without this funding we would not be able to keep up with demand, leaving families and their children with nowhere to turn.”
