A dog who got stuck in quicksand on the South Cumbrian coast was rescued by firefighters and volunteers.
Crews from Kendal, Ulverston and Grange were called to Grange at around 1pm yesterday, Thursday May 2, after the collie became stranded for over an hour.
Bay Search & Rescue and the Coastguard were also called in and the rescuers used specialist equipment, including inflatable walkways to rescue the collie.
Kendal Fire Station said: “The dog’s owner had also become partially submerged in the quicksand in her attempts to reach her pet, but had managed to get herself free prior to our arrival. Both were cold and wet but, thankfully, injury-free.
“This incident acts as a reminder of the dangers that can exist in our coastal areas. Quicksand is not always obvious, but is extremely dangerous, and we remind those who enjoy our coast to do so with caution.”
