
A walker was airlifted to hospital after they fell while out in the Lake District.
Two walkers were descending Haystacks, towards Inominate Tarn yesterday, Monday, May 6, at around 1.10pm, when one of them slipped on a rocky step and landed heavily on their back.
Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team were called and made their way in from Dubs Hut at the top of the Honister Mine track.
The casualty was assessed, and carefully stretchered to make sure their spine was immobilised.
The team said: “Due to the rough ground and the potential nature of the injury, the team leader requested a helicopter to assist with evacuation.
“The team was met at Black Beck Tarn by the Great North Air Ambulance, which kindly transported the casualty to Lancaster for further treatment.”
