A 13-year-old boy lost on a Lake District fell was found by a mountain leader.

The youngster had become separated from his group on Birkside on May 4 at around 12.50pm.

Weather conditions were difficult and the mountain leader put the boy in her bivvy shelter with two of her clients while she spent an hour searching for his group.

Unable to find the boy’s party she contacted the police who then alerted Keswick Mountain Rescue Team.

The team said: “She kindly assisted the boy down the path with the intention of meeting up with a Keswick team above Wythburn.

“The party was met at the treeline and the boy found to be footsore but otherwise well. He was driven down the forest track to the car park, where the police spoke to him and the rest of the boy’s party who were waiting for him there. A great effort by the mountain leader – many thanks.”

The following day, a walker was reported missing after failing to turn up at his accommodation as intended at around 11.40pm.

Apparently he had left Langdale at around 4pm with a planned route into Langstrath and up to Dock Tarn before descending into Borrowdale.

He was reported to have sent a text at 8.45pm from Dock Tarn.

As the area has poor mobile coverage it was not possible to contact the missing man.

Keswick Mountain Rescue dispatched small teams to search the the paths along Langstrath and Dock Tarn, and Langdale-Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team were contacted to prepare for a search in their area.

The Keswick team said: “At 1.30am the police advised that a text had been received and that the man was at the Dungeon Ghyll Hotel in Langdale. The teams were stood down and got back to base at 2.15am.”
