Division One’s Workington Golf Club A and Division Two’s Rack Shack are the new L&L Property Contractors Snooker League Top 4 play-off champions.
The Golf Club A side completed their superb Division One league and play-off double with a hard fought 3-1 win over a team who have been their closest rivals all season, Workington’s United Club A.
In Division Two Whitehaven’s Rack Shack delivered a thrilling 3-1 victory as they triumphed over Maryport Social to take their first cup since entering the league only a few years ago.
The Division One final started with a close victory for Phil Sorfleet as he defeated United A’s Dave Chapman to put the golfers 1-0 up.
A slightly more convincing win in frame two for Ryan Ismay doubled the Golf A lead as he triumphed over United A’s Clive Lister but as Peter O’Hagan took out Golf A’s Mark Brasted in frame three the United Club A outfit were back in it even though they trailed 2-1.
This ray of hope was dashed in the next, however, as Mark Cowen, with a break of 32, ensured the Golf Club A side went away with the play-off title as he defeated United A’s Andrew Mitchelhill in what ended up being a 3-1 match winning scoreline.
In the Division Two final Phil Denvir made the perfect start for the Rack Shack with an impressive win over Maryport Social’s Ben Scott and as Peter McAvoy took the second with a victory over Maryport Social’s Andrew Sharp the Whitehaven outfit went 2-0 up.
An epic third frame looked to be going in favour of the Rack Shack but as Neil Dougherty missed the pink Andrew Scott eventually took the remaining two balls to keep Maryport in the match.
In the fourth frame, a tactical encounter, saw it go all the way and with just the pink remaining Chris McKelvey needed both balls. A good pot on the pink ensued, however, in playing the white off two rails to knock the black off the side cushion, and leave an unmissable pot to the middle pocket, the shot of the night was delivered.
Just a few seconds later and the final ball of the frame was deposited for McKelvey to complete frame, match and title victory with a triumph over Maryport’s Greg Todd.
