A Cumbrian group has been awarded £320,000 to help improve people’s health and wellbeing in Cumbria.
iCan Wellbeing Group has been given the cash from the National Lottery Community Fund.
Lisa Bridgewater, chief operating officer, said: “This is an enormous feat of achievement for us. We are passionate and dedicated to the health and wellbeing of our
county and are thrilled we can offer free support at such a critical time of need with the state of the nation’s economy and cost of living crisis.
“We believe health and wellbeing incentives to get people moving and socialising should be free to all and now we have the opportunity to make that a reality.”
The grant allow the group to implement several initiatives, including:
- Free fitness services: Providing free fitness services to individuals living on low incomes, those with mental health needs, or those awaiting surgery/on long NHS waiting lists.
- Wellbeing sessions: The sessions will cover activities such as writing for wellbeing, meditation, wellbeing courses, and social activities. Support will also be provided to help individuals discover their purpose through the practice of Ikigai, a Japanese philosophy focused on finding fulfilment through meaningful activities.
- Rural Support for Cumbria Young Farmers: Establishing a dedicated health and wellbeing presence for Cumbria Young Farmers, focusing on addressing the unique challenges faced by young rural communities.
Lisa added: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to expand our services and support more people’s health and wellbeing in the county.
“This grant is a testament to the dedication of our team and the generosity of National Lottery players. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of individuals across Cumbria.”
