The West Cumbria Midweek League is underway again with the same five teams taking part as launched the competition last year after an absence in the cricketing calendar.
Broughton opened with an impressive win against Workington, scoring a five wicket victory with almost seven overs to spare.
Choosing to bat first Workington were all out off the first ball of the final over for 95. That was mainly due to open Owen Thompson’s 33 retired and a last wicket partnership between Matt Lanaghan (10no) and skipper Liam Irving (11).
Dave Campbell (3-12) and Kurt Chestney (2-6) were the most successful Broughton bowlers.
Broughton didn’t hang about in knocking off the runs with opener Andy Skelton (32ret) and Chestney (28) to the fore as they reached 98,5 in only 13.1 overs.
Lanaghan (2-6) and Dylan Elsworth (2-19) were the leading Workington wicket-takers.
