Scunthorpe are seeking to join Workington in the BSN Series semi-finals as the sides clash in the final Northern section fixture at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight.

The Comets have won all three fixtures so far to top the group, and they will remain in that position if they defend their 22-point aggregate margin from the recent meeting in Cumbria.

But a home win of any kind will be enough for the Scorpions to also progress into the last four of the competition as it would mean they could not be beaten as best runners-up.

The home side are at full strength as Nathan Ablitt returns after a month out with an ankle injury, whilst the visitors have Antti Vuolas back from concussion but Celina Liebmann misses out for personal reasons and is replaced by Luke Killeen.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “The main thing against Workington in terms of the BSN Series is that as long as we don’t lose to them, we will move through to the semi-finals as the best runner-up.

“But I don’t see any harm in aiming high and trying to pull back from the deficit from our defeat at Workington and aiming for the aggregate point as well. The weather is due to be good, so the track will be how we want it.”

Workington manager James Denham said: “It’s nice to know we have a bit of cushion on aggregate, but we’re not taking it for granted! Scunthorpe have proven they have a very strong team so far this season and again we will have to be on our toes from the off.

“We’re going there to win, and I’m confident the team can get the job done.”
