Parkside continue to shine on pitch

Parkside, the new Sunday County champions, have made progress in another West Cumberland Sunday League competition.

In a mid-week fixture they beat FC Cosmos 6-3 in a Tier 1 League Cup group game to earn a place in the semi-finals on Sunday. Guess who they play? FC Cosmos again.

Ryan Maguire (2), Andrew Bulman (2), Ben McCarron and Aiden Smith scored the Parkside goals with Jamie Thursby scoring a hat-trick for Cosmos.

The other Tier One League Cup semi-final will be Northside v Moresby and by a remarkable coincidence they also met in mid-week, but in a Premier Division fixture.

It didn’t go to form as the new champions Northside were hammered 8-2 as Nathan Walkingshaw (3), Ellis Trotter, Brett Smith, Taylor Hambling, Tom Walton and Tor Pattinson gave Moresby their best result of the season.

Jay Connor and Harry Watson scored for Northside who were playing their fourth game in seven days, which probably contributed to their low-key performance. It will be interesting to see how they go in Sunday’s semi-final on home turf.

There were two fixtures completed in Division One, the best of which saw Flimby edge-out Senhouse Street 1-0 with a goal from Apirak Rueangprat.

In the other game Sun Inn  were too strong for Royal Oak and won 7-2 with goals from Louie Elliott (3), Jackson Slack (2), Jack Coyne and Ben Allan. John Woodhouse and Connor Buck replied for the Royal Oak.

The climax to the season will be the League Cup finals which are both going to be played at Borough Park on Sunday, May 19 – with Tier 2 kicking off at 10.30am followed by Tier 1 at 1pm.

Tomorrow’s games

  • Tier 1 semi-finals: Parkside v FC Cosmos; Northside v Moresby.
  • Tier 2 semi-final: Thornhill v Sun Inn (played at Dearham).
