West Cumbrian Dan Bewley, the Great Britain star chasing international success, has made history in Warsaw by becoming the winner of the Grand Prix series’ first-ever sprint race.
Bewley took the honours ahead of tonight’s main meeting by overtaking Leon Madsen to add four GP points to his series total.
Sheffield’s Tai Woffinden finished third (two points) and Robert Lambert fourth (one) in the one-off race as all three GB riders finished top of their respective qualifying groups.
Bewley said: “It’s always nice to win and I actually thought I was getting two points. Four points is good for me. The first round wasn’t brilliant, so it’s nice. But the real show starts tonight.”
A similar sprint race will be held the day before the British Grand Prix at Cardiff on the weekend of August 16-17.
