A culinary celebration will take place at a West Cumbrian hotel next week as the Taste of the Lakes young chef of the year is set to be revealed.
Chefs and students will gather at the Hundith Hill Hotel in Lorton Vale on Monday for the prestigious DeliFresh Ltd winners event.
Hosted by Taste of the Lakes, a Maryport-based family-run business which creates smoked, cooked, and cured produce sourced from Cumbria, Yorkshire, and the Highlands, the event promises a delectable showcase of regional delicacies.
The highlight of the event is the recognition of the Young Chef of the Year, presented to talented individuals who showcase exceptional culinary prowess.
Phil and Joan Butterworth, owners of Hundith Hill, said they were delighted to welcome the event to the hotel.
Phil said: “We cannot wait to see what dishes they conjure up over the day. We wish all chefs attending the very best of luck on the day and in the future”.
The prestigious event is made possible through the collaborative efforts of industry leaders, including DeliFresh Ltd, an award-winning supplier of fresh fruit, vegetables, and fine foods to the catering trade.
Culinary director of Taste of the Lakes, Paul Da Costa-Greaves will be on hand to steer the chefs over the day and host the event.
Paul said: “Taste of the Lakes is a family-run business, and we think education is at the forefront of this industry.”
“Deli Fresh Ltd set up a consortium with a sponsor and created the competition, where young chefs, students and established chefs can come together creatively and innovatively as they create a meal fit for restaurant purposes, which they will be judged on.
“The winners and runners-up will come to Taste of the Lakes headquarters and see the traditional methods we use in smoking, cooking, and curing, ensuring these ancient and artisanal skills will be passed onto future generations as well as delve into the art of gastronomy while immersing themselves in the rich heritage of Cumbrian produce.”
