Wath Brow A came out on top in the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL game of the day at Lowca.
The Hornets’ second string collected the points from a hard-earned 32-22 victory which was sealed in the 10 minutes of the game.
It was all square at half-time with the sides evenly matched and level at 12-12 when they took
Keith Campbell, Emmerson Allen, Mullen Robinson and man of the match Finn Barwise had scored tries for Lowca with Campbell landing three goals.
In the end, though, two late tries, one of which was converted carried the Hornets A team to victory.
There were tries from Luke Davison (2), man of the match Greg Rooney (2), James McCartney and Devan Sharp/ Matt Sibbald kicked four goals.
Lowca coach Lee Allen said: “It was a case of two good teams battling it out but out errors and lack of game management didn’t help us.
“We were defending too much and getting tired but at 22-22 after 70 minutes either team could have gone on and won it.

“We will regroup this week, go over a few things and look forward to Kells A on Friday in the Amateur Cup.”
Paul Farrell the Wath Brow coach said: “It was an outstanding effort, from all the lads. To win it with two great tries in the last eight minutes after a very tough game showed our fitness levels are very high.
“It was played in very hot conditions so we rotated the forwards throughout and it paid off. I couldn’t have asked for a better effort in those conditions over 80 minutes.

“We’d said from the start we had to go for the whole 80 minutes and we did so it was a very pleasing performance and will have done us the world of good ahead of our big Cup game with Maryport next week.”
The Maryport derby between Ellenborough A and Maryport had kicked off the weekend – and that was another tight contest but really for only 40 minutes as Maryport pulled away in the second half to win 62-12.
Maryport had only led 16-12 at half time but ran away with the game after the break as they scored 46 unanswered points. A big crowd, in glorious evening sunshine enjoyed the derby atmosphere.
Robbie Thompson, the Ellenborough coach said: “It was a brilliant first 30 minutes for us when we scored two converted tries.
“Maryport scored a couple of tries before half time and then took control in the second half, with their forwards the stand-outs
“I thought the final scoreline didn’t reflect the game and the young Elbra A side all played well considering we hadn’t played since March 30.
“We go again next week at home to Cockermouth and the lads will look to build on that first-half effort to put ion an 80-minute performance.”
Jason Todd and Shane Ackerley had scored the tries to put Elbra ahead with both being converted by their man of the match Rocco Okesene.

In the end Maryport ended up with 11 tries, nine of which were converted by Blake Miller.
Those touchdowns came from Sam Forrester (2), Miller, Luke Cremins, Jack Shepherd, Joel Baker, Dan Fidler, Carl Steele, Liam Anderson, Luke Baker and Joe Kirkup.
Maryport coach Mark Foster said: “We were a bit scrappy first-half, giving away too many penalties in what was a typical derby game played in warm conditions.
“We managed to get a bit of structure to our game inn the second-half and ran out convincing winners but we know we will have to be a lot better for 80 minutes next week against Maryport.”
Hensingham A were 20-16 ahead at Cockermouth when they took the half-time break but the Titans came back strongly in the second-half to win 42-24.
The Cockermouth tries were scored by Spencer Fulton (2), Ethan Cross, Dan Henderson, Fraser Murray, Lewis Shield, Rhys Burr and Logan Scales. Regan Tinnion kicked five goals.
The Hensinghan tries were scored by Matt Williams (4) and Dylan Cromwell with Dylan Bragg landing two goals.
Cockermouth’s man of the match was Callum Marrs with Theo Crowe picking-up the nomination for Hensingham.
Chris Crowe, the Hensingham coach said: “It was a really competitive game but in the end Cockermouth deserved their win.
“We started really well and were up at half-time but in the second half Cockermouth used the hill really well and took advantage of some bad discipline from a yoiung Hensingham side.”
Askam were celebrating their first win of the season when they beat Aspatria 28-20
With tries from Jordan Hopkins, Chris Tyson, Jude McNamara, Chris Broadley and Luke McIntee. Brad Jackson kicked three goals and Lewis Stables added another.
The Aspatria points came from tries by Ben Tootill (2), Jack Wilson and Mark Irwin with Tootill adding two goals.
The Askam man of the match was second rower Dylan Barrow while Aspatria’s star man was veteran forward James Robinson.
Askam coach Chris Broadley said: “We had been behind in the first-half but we got points just before the break and I thought we controlled the second-half.
“It was nice to get our first win, especially as we had a few players missing and had seven players under-21 in the side which is promising for the future.
“Dylan Barrow was given the man of the match award by the referee and it really was an outstanding performance in a good team display.”
For Aspatria Mark Ridley said: “Congratulations to Askam on their first win, it was deserved.
“It was good and bad for the Hornets on the day. We completed our sets in the first-half to build a 16-0 lead with some nice tries. But they scored just before half-time and after the break our discipline let us down.”
