It may have been sunny and warm but strong winds made for challenging race conditions at Carlisle Cycle Circuit last night.
The first race of the evening attracted a decent sized field of Category 4 riders including a good number of local riders.
It was Paul Livesey of Keswick who snatched victory from Border City Wheelers member Ryan Johnston who was impressive in his first ever race of this type. Ryan also rode the fastest lap of the race.
Thomas Johnstone, who had travelled down from Glasgow, thwarted hopes of an all- Cumbrian podium, as he edged out Derwent Valley CC’s Simon Farrell to take third.
The second race of the evening open to Category 2, 3 and 4 riders was contested by a mix of local riders and visitors from the North East and Scotland.
A group of four riders – Jack Rees and Daniel Saba both from the North East and the Wolf Cycles duo of Ed Hindmarsh and Alex Foster – broke clear in the later stages of the race.
In the final lap it was the rider of the fastest lap of the night Rees who was dominant taking the win from the in-form Hindmarsh, with Foster completing the podium.
It was a good night for Studio Velo’s Michael Williamson too. There was no visit to the podium for him this week but the three licence points he earned from his 7th place in the first race move him up to Category 3 and he also impressed the spectators with his determination, being the only rider to complete both races – no mean feat in the blustery conditions!
