Birthday boy Dan Bewley helped Belle Vue move to the top of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership with a hard-fought 48-42 win over King’s Lynn in Manchester last night.
Bewley, from Maryport, celebrated his 25th birthday by scoring 11 points from his four rides with three wins and a second place.
The Aces secured match and aggregate points against the Stars but the depleted visitors remained in contention throughout and achieved the best points total of any away side at the National Speedway Stadium so far this season.
Ben Cook continued his strong form for the Aces with 12+1 backed by former Workington Comet Bewley with his 11.
Danish duo Michael Palm Toft (11+1) and Niels-Kristian Iversen (10) led the Stars’ resistance.
Aces’ German international Norick Blodorn (7+1) said: “I think we were a little surprised at how strong King’s Lynn were.
“You can never underestimate anyone in speedway, though, and they were determined to get something out of the meeting and they proved that in the first few races.
“But I think once we settled in and got into our rhythm we managed to hold them off and it’s another great win for the team, and we went top of the table as well.”
