A man injured after an explosion at a West Cumbrian brewery is ‘fighting hard’ his colleagues said.
The incident happened at Tractor Shed Brewing in Seaton, near Workington, last Monday.
The man suffered serious burns and it is understood he was airlifted to the RVI in Newcastle for treatment.
A statement from Tractor Shed Brewing, on its Facebook page, identified the worker as Leigh.
They said: “This last week has been the hardest week. Since the explosion in the brewery on Monday our colleague Leigh has been in hospital with severe burns.
“He is stable and fighting hard. All of our thoughts are with Leigh and his family. We ask that you give them the space they need at this time.
“We have received hundreds of messages of kindness, well wishes to Leigh and offers of support. This has been truly humbling and we cannot thank you enough.
“These messages help us, and hopefully Leigh, get through the days and give us the strength to face tomorrow. We may not get to reply to them all but they have all been appreciated. Thank you for your continued love and understanding.”
Police have launched an investigation and the Health and Safety Executive is involved.
Emergency services were contacted at around 2.50pm to Calva Brow. Police said they were contacted by North West Ambulance Service which had received a report of an explosion at the brewing facility.
Ambulance crews, police and the fire service were all in attendance. Two air ambulances also attended.
