Around 100 workers are set to strike at Workington’s Amcor plant over pay.
The packaging factory, at Moorclose, has contracts with several food brands including Walkers and Kellogg’s.
The 24-hour strikes by members of the Unite union are due to take place on May 29, June 1, June 3, June 5 and June 9.
Further industrial action will be scheduled if the dispute is not resolved, Unite said
The union said Amcor’s six per cent pay offer was a real terms pay cut as the real rate of inflation, RPI, stood at 9.1 per cent when the pay rise was due to be implemented in October 2023.
It added: “The workers’ pay rise for 2022 was also six per cent below the level of the real rate of inflation at the time, meaning their spending power has fallen substantially over the last two years.
“Meanwhile, Amcor Packaging latest financial report shows that it is a wealthy company that had a turnover of £129 million in 2023 with gross profits of £12.3 million.”
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Amcor cannot expect its workers to swallow a real terms pay cut for the second year in a row. It can fully afford to put forward a fair pay offer. Unite does not tolerate attacks on our members’ jobs, pay or conditions and the Amcor Workington workforce have their union’s total support.”
