It’s business as usual for Kendal Town as they await the decision over their appeal against a move into the Northern League.
They have announced their opening friendly ahead of the 2024/25 season, wherever they play, will be on Friday, June 29 at Caton United.
The Mintcakes have also agreed to play Carlisle City at Parkside Road, on Tuesday, July 16.
City manager Jim Nichols spent eight years at Kendal, under both Lee Ashworth and Dave Foster, and has taken his City side back on previous occasions.
It’s a difficult situation for Kendal as they want to stay in the North West Counties League and were not consulted over a lateral move into the Northern League, which could have serious consequences.
However, manager Jimmy Marshall and his backroom staff have committed to the club whatever the result of the appeal.
Marshall said: “After the uncertainty of the last week or so, which is completely out of the club’s control, and after having many discussions, we feel it’s important we show a level of loyalty to the club and its people.
“Regardless of the outcome of the appeal, we are committed to furthering the progress we have made so far. It’s times like these where everyone needs to pull together. Hopefully, committing our futures can be a small part of this.”
Chairman Michael O’Neill said: “Regardless of the league, Jimmy and his team were always the people we wanted in the dugout. Continuity on and off the pitch is much needed right now for the club to move forward; we all need to be together.”
“We’re all delighted that Jimmy and his staff have pledged their futures to the club. The last week has been extremely tough, but this gives us all a massive lift as we go into the appeal against our lateral move.”
