Elections are about choice, A choice between parties, national leaders – and of course, the local candidates.

So, what are the choices for this election? In Carlisle it will be a straight choice between the Conservatives and Labour.

Between them, the two parties took more than 90% of the vote in 2019.

As for the national leaders, there are only two people who will be Prime Minister after the election.

One is Rishi Sunak, a hard-working Prime Minister who has a plan in place which has seen the country begin to turn a corner. Inflation is down, wages are starting to rise faster than prices, taxes are being cut, and our economy is growing.

In contrast, Keir Starmer has offered nothing new or imaginative. Indeed, he has changed his mind on so many issues that it is difficult to keep up.

He is a politician who will say anything he thinks the people want to hear, but do nothing that needs to be done. Labour goes into this election with no vision, no clear policies, and no plans for the future.

And finally, there is the local choice. I am proudly standing on my record as MP for Carlisle for 14 years.

I have been committed to our area for more than 30 years, I have a track record of lobbying Government to invest huge amounts in our city and beyond, I have organised events, such as the Carlisle Skills Fair, which benefits the local area and helps young people fulfil their potential, and I have stood up for Carlisle in Parliament and Westminster so that our city always has a voice.

Elections are about a choice.

I hope that you will choose me to continue my work to make Carlisle an even better place to live and work.
