
Workington Town were made to pay for another sub-standard first-half as they went down to a 24-22 home defeat to Hunslet.
They conceded all those 24 points in the first half and were able to keep out the visitors after the break, edging back into the game.
From 24-10 in arrears at half-time Town got to within two points but just couldn’t find a way to get in front.
On other occasions Town have trailed at the break but have come back to win well, but this wasn’t one of those days and they stay well off the pace in League One.
It had looked promising early on when Ethan Bickerdike went in for the opening try after only five points. As it turned out the missed conversion proved to be the difference in the end.
Hunslet went in front on 12 minutes when Matty Behatrrell sent Josh Jordan-Roberts in for the equalising score and his own conversion put his side ahead.

Town weren’t helped when they had Jake Bradley sin-binned and in his absence Hunslet increased their lead.
Matty Fletcher went over on 19 minutes and Beharrell added the conversion before five minutes later they were in again. This time Beharrell intercepted a Town pass and sent Jude Ferreira racing 80 yards to score. Beharrell converted.
On the half hour a Jordan Symes break put Jimmy Watson in for a try which Beharrell converted and at 24-4 it looked bleak for Town.

But then Fletcher (Hunslet) and Jordan Burns (Town) were sin-binned and when it was 12 against 12 Bradley scored for Town with Carl Forber adding the conversion just before the hooter.’
When Town scored again on 49 minutes it looked as though they would have enough time to salvage the game. Hunslet had spilled the ball and Forber capitalised with the try which he converted.

On the hour Town were really back in it when Jason Mossop scored and Forber converted for a 24-22 deficit.
But the West Cumbrians just couldn’t complete the comeback in the final quarter and Hunslet held on for two valuable points.
