Whitehaven drew their second successive away game, this time a 25-25 stalemate at Doncaster.
After being denied by a late Widnes score two weeks ago, this time it was Whitehaven who scrambled the point with a drop goal from Jake Carter a minute from time.
Yet at half-time Whitehaven were 18-4 ahead after an excellent first-half performance, so disappointing that they had to rely on a last gasp field goal to salvage their point.
Jonty Gorley’s men had gone in front after six minutes when Guy Graham charged over under the sticks for Carter to convert.
They were able to double that lead on 25 minutes when they moved the ball wide for Curtis Teare to get over and Carter landed the conversion.
Lucas Castle was sin-binned five minutes from half-time for a high shot and before the break Luke Briscoe went over in the corner for the Dons but the conversion was missed.
Yet with 12 men Whitehaven were still able to score a third try just before the hooter. Edene Gebbie went the length of the field for the try which was again converted by Carter.
Still down to 12 Whitehaven were caught out a minute after the re-start when Pauli Pauli barged over from short range and Connor Robinson converted.
On 49 minutes Whitehaven conceded again when a grubber kick from Brett Ferres was chased by Bureta Faraimo who got the touchdown in the corner. Robinson failed with the kick.
It had been a disastrous spell for Haven and it got worse on 51 minutes when Joe Lovodua broke away and he had Loui McConnell with him to take the pass and score. Robinson’s conversion put Doncaster ahead for the first time.
Whitehaven responded to that and four minutes later they had regained the lead when Ryan King got in and Carter’s fourth goal edged the Cumbrians into the lead again.
It had been a mad period of play and three minutes later there was another score, this one by Briscoe for Doncaster to level the score.
Deep into the last quarter both teams were looking for the field goal. Robinson struck first on 76 minutes to edge the Dons ahead but Carter restored parity in the final minute.
