Barrow RNLI was called out to help a cabin cruiser which was drifting without power in Walney Channel.
The request for assistance to go and assess the situation was received from the Coastguard at 11.35am yesterday, Sunday June 2.
Inshore lifeboat Raymond and Dorothy Billingham was launched at 12.03pm with Saul Tomlin at the helm, and crew Andy Baxter and Mike Armstrong.
The alarm had been raised by the skipper of the Piel Ferry who had noticed the 18ft cruiser in difficulty about half a mile east of Piel Island and made a 999 call to the Coastguard.
The lifeboat was on the scene within a few minutes and established that there were two people on board the vessel.
The cruiser was able to re-start its engine and after assessing the situation it was decided that the lifeboat would escort the vessel back to its mooring at Ferry Pitching.
With the casualty vessel safe, the lifeboat returned to the boathouse where it arrived at 1.20pm and was then washed down and made ready for the next call out.
