In an incredible start, Workington Reds Budget Booster has clocked up close to £10,000 in the first 24 hours.

The Reds Independent Supporters Club have handed over £5,000 from various fundraising schemes they have been running.

The Booster barometer showed £9,346 had been donated on the first day of the launch as Reds try to provide a kitty for manager Mark Fell to increase his Workington squad.

Fell has already expressed his thanks for the amount raised so far and has confirmed that he is chasing a number of potential new signings.

One or two of them might not be delivered in the next month, and could be late into the pre-season build-up, as they are having trials with full-time clubs at a higher level.

Fell has also had to look for new opposition for a friendly in July after the scheduled game against a Championship side’s Under-23s was scrubbed.

However two other friendly games have been confirmed – Reds will travel to Ashington on July 22 but before then will visit Coppull United on July 6 as Fell plans to take-on teams at various levels of the football pyramid.
