Whitehaven have appointed a new director in Ian Lowrey, who has been supporting the club for 45 years.
Ian, recently retired from Sellafield, had started watching the club when he was 16 and had continued to followed them right through to the present day.
He said: “I never imagined ever being a member of the club’s board but when I was asked recently to be a director I accepted. I have plenty of time now that I’m retired so I will be giving that to the club, helping in whatever areas it is needed.
“I played a bit of amateur rugby league when I was young. I had three years with the old Shipwrights team and then another three years at Hensingham.
“I was no great shakes as a player but I was what you would call a trier.”
Whitehaven said: “We are delighted to have Ian on board to give assistance in pushing the club forward.
“In addition his wife Mary has volunteered to assist the club with financial matters and funding.
“Both together will give a boost to the internal workings of the club and their genuine love and support will be greatly appreciated by all.”
