Potential signing for Workington Reds lined up

A potential new signing for Workington Reds is to undergo a medical this weekend before a deal is completed.

New manager Mark Fell had lined up the experienced defender to help fill the gaps created by the loss of Dan Wordsworth and Sam Smith.

“The player in question has an injury record we need reassurances about, plus it’s just about doing things right and as professionally as possible.

“It’s going to be done this week-end so hopefully we will have news for the fans when that has been carried out,” he said.

Fell is intent on bringing in quality players from outside the area, to augment the talent available to him in the current squad, and with other county-based players in his sights.

“I think we are about where I thought we would be at this stage with regard to the squad. Things will start to move as we get nearer the pre-season friendlies, although one or two might still take a bit longer.

“Our budget booster has got off to a brilliant start and that is going to be a really big help in what we are trying to do as far as the squad is concerned,” said Fell.

In just 24 hours, it reached almost £10,000.

Reds are still looking for more pre-season games with a variety of opposition already lined up.
