A shoplifter’s haul of 15 steaks from a supermarket have been donated to a West Cumbrian community centre.
Allerdale police said they caught the shoplifter near a centre in the area.
A post on Facebook said: “The problem supermarkets often have, after a shoplifter steals a large amounts of chilled meat, is that it has to be thrown away after being out the fridge. This is often the case even if the police catch the person just up the road because of strict policy!
“On this occasion the shoplifter was caught near a local community centre, the food was still packaged and the supermarket kindly allowed the 15 steaks to be donated to the community centre.
“The community centre regularly feeds dozens of locals every week and combat loneliness by getting people together around food. They were very thankful and stated they could put it to good use.
“For now the supermarket and community centre will remain nameless unless they wish to name themselves.
“Three problems solved – shoplifter arrested, food waste prevented and a good cause supported!”
