Maryport Athletic have failed in a bid to join the West Lancashire League for the 2024/25 season.
The champions of the Cumberland County League, Maryport Athletic are keen to take the club forward and if successful would have fielded a reserve team in the County League.
Mill Hill FC, from the East Lancashire Football League, were voted by member clubs to join Division Two next season.
Also successful were Bamber Bridge Reserves and Barnoldswick Reserves, who will also play in Division Two.
Hawcoat Park, who finished bottom of Division Two last season and therefore had to seek re-election, secured enough nominations to stay in the league.
It meant fourth applicants, Maryport Athletic, did not get voted into the league and with Thornton Cleveleys playing in the North West Counties League next season, it means Thornton Cleveleys Reserves will be moved up to Division Two.
Karl Skillen, manager and driving force behind the Maryport Athletic, said that it was disappointing not to be accepted but it was still the long term desire to progress the club.
He said: “We really want to advance onto the pyramid system and the West Lancashire League seems to provide the best possible route to us.
“We were told beforehand that the distance might be a problem with the member club but I’m hoping for feedback from the League on that.
“I’m also looking for feedback from the County FA, hopefully to give us some guidance as well.
“Long term it is still our ambition to progress but short-term we have to look at improving our facilities at Milltoft and making sure it’s a proper home venue.”
Cleator Moor Celtic and Whitehaven are already members of the West Lancashire League playing in the Premier Division.ReplyReply allForward
