Workington might be struggling in the Cumbria Leagues’ Premier Division but they continue to shine in the T20 format.
Having already beaten Whitehaven, the Valentine Ground side followed up by beating Egremont by 21 runs last night.
Put in to bat Workington made a confident start with Sam Bates (38 off 39 balls) and skipper Matthew Lowden (23 off 27) put on 63 off 10.2 overs.
Callum Sutton chipped in with 19 off 14 deliveries and Adam Chambers hit 14 off 13 before the innings rather faded away to 111-9.
The leading Egremont bowlers were their overseas recruit Raghav Kupar (3-13) and skipper Coady Scott (3-17).
The Egremont innings depended a lot on Kupar who, batting at number three, was out in the final over for a top-scoring 28 off 24 deliveries. Opener Lewis Hunter with 16 was next best.
They were 90-8 at the end of their 20 overs with Lewis Hull (3-16) the most successful Workington bowler.
Thursday night’s match between Whitehaven v Cleator was rained off with a point apiece.
There was one game in the south group in which Millom opened their account with a victory at Haverigg by 36 runs.
They had opted to bat first and reached 126-5 before restricting the hosts to 90-5.
Professional Nathan Waterston batted through the innings and hit 52no from 52 deliveries with fellow opener and Skipper Graham Dawson next best on 24. Haverigg pro Akshay Chandran was next best with 2-15.
Chandran (25 off 31) and fellow opener Dale Graham (14 off 14) gave Haverigg a decent start but there was really only Kevin Rogan (17no) after that to trouble the scorers.
Some tight bowling did the trick for Millom with four bowlers taking a wicket and Robbie Wilson (1-10) and Braith Connor (1-14) doing best.
