Firefighters have rescued a baby seagull trapped on a Carlisle building.
The bird was spotted hanging from the guttering of the Bowling Green hostel, on Scotch Street, today, Tuesday, June 25, at around 11.45am.
The service said it was not something it would normally do, but people were talking about trying to save the bird themselves – so it took the decision to carry out the rescue.
A crew from Carlisle East Fire Station attended, freed the bird and passed it to a member of the public for them to transport it to a welfare centre.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “While it is not common for the service to attend the rescue of a seagull, this was an incident that was attracting significant public and social media interest.

“Additionally, there was concern that a member of the public may attempt to affect the rescue themselves, therefore the service took the decision to deploy a crew to carry out the rescue on this occasion.”
