Carlisle United have added 27-year-old midfielder Ethan Robson to their squad for the 2024/25 season.
The squad numbers were announced yesterday and Robson will take the seven shirt.
Robson joined Sunderland at the age of eight and when he turned pro in 2014 he went on to play nine senior games at the Stadium of Light.
During his time there he had two loan spells – at Dundee (13 games, two goals) and Grimsby (16 games, three goals).
When he was released by Sunderland he joined Blackpool and played 30 League games in two seasons, although part of the second year was spent on loan at MK Dons where he played 18 times and scored one goal.
In 2022 he joined the Dons on a two-year contract and went on to play 51 League games in two seasons.
Manager Paul Simpson told the United website: “Ethan is a really good footballer. He’s left-footed so he gives us a little bit more balance in that area.
“We’ve got quite a few players who you’d say were a number six type midfielder who can control the mid-field whereas Ethan is a little bit more forward-thinking.
“He’s got good legs about him to go and get forward and get in the box.
“He’s got a wand of a left foot for finding that pass. In the past couple od seasons he hasn’t been the one getting the assists for goals, but he’s the one finding the pass that leads to the assist.
“I want him to add more goals to his game, when you’ve got a sweet left foot like he has. I want him to go and test goalkeepers.
“We’re try to get competition in all areas, I want it to be a really competitive group, and Ethan will add to that.
“He’s also a really good character and he’s got good experience. I think all of the players we’ve brought in so far have been the same.”
