Whitehaven Harbour’s orange water taskforce is due to meet next month to discuss new data.
Water quality monitors were put in place earlier this year by the Environment Agency, Network Rail and the Coal Authority to establish the flow and composition of the water.
The testing comes as part of plans to find a way to treat or divert the water away from the harbour in order to buy time to allow organisations to continue to search for the cause.
She said tests so far had been piecemeal and that more substantial data was needed to make progress.
Next month, the organisations are set to discuss the findings at a task force meeting. The task force brings together all involved organisations.
A spokeswoman from the Environment Agency said: “We continue to work with Network Rail and the Coal Authority to address the ongoing discolouration in Whitehaven Marina.
“This is a complex issue and we are expecting Network Rail’s additional monitoring data very shortly.
“This data will increase our understanding and will be discussed at the next task force meeting, expected to be in July.”
It is hoped a solution will be agreed on and delivered within months.
Why is Whitehaven’s water still orange?
Often compared to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’s chocolate river – the water has been intermittently turning a bright or burnt orange after periods of heavy rainfall since November 2022.
