A West Cumbrian cocaine dealer whose drugs were sniffed out by dogs during a search of his home has been jailed.
Jordan Hanlon, now 33, was arrested after a warrant was executed at his Crummock Avenue address in Whitehaven on February 13 this year.
Cocaine wraps bagged in four separate packages, totalling almost 60g and potentially worth a total of £3,360 if sold on the street, was found by police officers.
To assist with the search, they had drafted in trained dogs whose attention was also drawn to weighing scales. Two sets of scales were found inside the property and these, a prosecutor told Carlisle Crown Court today, had been used to calibrate the amounts of street deals.
Snap-sealed bags and debtors’ lists were also located, with the cocaine described as being of high purity.
Hanlon pleaded guilty to possessing the class A drug with intent to supply.
Marion Weir, mitigating, said the illegal operation was not sophisticated. It had involved the supply of cocaine and was carried out as a means of funding his own habit.
The court was told he had class B cannabis supply offending on his record but nothing for class A substance offending.
Recorder Michael Blakey said the items found in Hanlon’s home had all the accoutrements of somebody dealing in drugs.
“The supplying of drugs of that nature causes all sorts of difficulties in society. It causes violence. It causes all sorts of different offences,” Recorder Blakey told Hanlon.
“Ultimately, in some instances, it can cause death. Therefore it is important the court does what it can to try and stamp that out.”
Hanlon was given a total prison sentence of three years by the judge.
