
Emergency services were called out after an unoccupied boat was spotted on Derwentwater.
Maryport Rescue, Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team, Keswick Mountain Rescue Team, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, BEEP Doctors, the ambulance service and Cumbria police were alerted at around 11am today, Monday July 1.
The boat had been seen on the east side of the lake at Keswick.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team said: “The man’s unoccupied self-drive hire boat had been found. While the team were searching the lakeshore and islands, Coastguard helicopter Rescue 199 from Prestwick arrived on the scene and quickly made a find, recovering the man into the helicopter.
“The man was flown to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, where sadly he was declared deceased. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the man’s family and friends.”
Maryport Rescue said: “Unfortunately it wasn’t the outcome we all wanted. Our thoughts are with family at this difficult time.”
